If you have Volvo warning lights coming on when you try and start the engine it could be to do with your immobiliser or your car key.
In our experience the most common Volvo related immobiliser fault usually occurs when the car has been jump started or the battery is old. This causes an unstable fluctuation of power to the Central Electric Module (CEM) which corrupts the data being received.
(This is similar to switching your computer on and off many times within a short space of time eventually breaking your hard drive).
If this is the case I’m afraid you will need a specialist. To avoid expensive main dealer charges (and possibly towing it to a garage) you will need to call out an auto locksmith. Make sure you get an auto locksmith with access to Volvo VIDA (the dealer online diagnostic tool) so s/he can perform a CEM reload.
(This is like a renewing system settings and rebooting the computer)
If you have other Volvo warning lights on that don’t relate to the immobilser the best bet is to first check the Volvo manual and second call a specialist like us to have a chat over the phone to see if they can diagnose the problem.
If you have Volvo warning lights on and you’re based in the midlands please call us and we may be able to diagnose your issue over the phone or at worst come out to get back on the road. Although we are an autolocksmith we specialise in certain makes like Volvo and carry main dealer equipment with us.
